the complete story of Revan
Born on the Outer Rim world of Deralia, the boy showed a natural affinity for the Force and was taken into the Jedi Order. He possessed an insatiable thirst for knowledge, mastering techniques and philosophies at a pace that alarmed some of the more conservative Jedi Masters. As a Padawan, he trained under several instructors, notably the philosophical Jedi Master Kreia. She frequently challenged the young student to question the nature of the Force and its relationship to the galaxy. During his time at the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine, he became inseparable from a fellow student named Alek. Alek shared his boldness and would later play a massive role in Revan’s destiny. As he grew, the young prodigy developed a charismatic and forceful personality. He ascended to the rank of Jedi Knight, earning a reputation as one of the most brilliant minds in the Order. At the time, the Galactic Republic was paralyzed by the Mandalorian Wars, a brutal invasion by Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders. The Jedi Council ordered the Order to remain neutral to avoid falling to the dark side. Revan, now a vocal and charismatic critic of this inaction, could not tolerate the Council’s reticence. He gathered a coalition of like-minded Jedi, who became known as the Revanchists, and openly defied the Council’s mandates to join the Republic military. Recognizing his tactical brilliance, the Republic granted Revan the rank of Supreme Commander. Along with Alek—who had rebranded himself as Malak—Revan turned the tide of the war. However, the war was incredibly taxing. To defeat the relentless Mandalorians, Revan adapted highly unorthodox, ruthless tactics. He began to prioritize victory over traditional moral constraints, shedding the pacifist doctrines of the Jedi. The turning point of the conflict arrived at Malachor V. Revan engaged the Mandalorian leader, Mandalore the Ultimate, in single combat and defeated him. Before dying, Mandalore whispered a secret: they had been manipulated into the war by an ancient Sith presence. Seeking to ensure total victory, Revan ordered the activation of the Mass Shadow Generator, a superweapon that devastated both the Mandalorian and Republic fleets. The planetary surface of Malachor V was ruined, creating a dark side nexus that deeply impacted Revan’s soul. Following the Mandalorian defeat, Revan and Malak took a fleet into the Unknown Regions to uncover the true Sith behind the Mandalorian manipulation. This expedition led them directly to the reconstituted Sith Empire and its ruler, the Sith Emperor Vishet. Vishet proved immensely powerful, breaking the minds of Revan and Malak during a confrontation. The Emperor subtly manipulated them, bending their wills and sending them back to the Republic as vanguard scouts to prepare for an eventual Sith invasion. However, Revan’s sheer willpower and drive were too strong. While under Vishet’s influence, Revan and Malak broke free of the Emperor’s direct mind control. Instead of returning to the light, Revan succumbed entirely to the dark side on his own terms. Taking the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith, Revan adopted the name Darth Revan. He crowned Malak as his Sith apprentice, Darth Malak. Driven by his dark visions, Revan believed the Republic had to be conquered and united under a strong, ruthless leader to survive the coming dark threat. During their exploration of the Unknown Regions, Revan and Malak discovered the Star Forge, an ancient Rakatan superweapon. This massive space station was fueled by the dark side and could construct vast fleets, serving as the military backbone of Revan’s new Sith Empire. Darth Revan declared war on the Galactic Republic, initiating the Jedi Civil War. His Sith army proved overwhelmingly powerful, using fear, manipulation, and highly efficient tactics to systematically dismantle Republic defenses. As the war escalated, Revan’s strategic genius and power in the dark side grew, turning countless Jedi to his cause. However, traces of his former Jedi compassion occasionally manifested in his decisions, keeping him from total madness. At the height of the Jedi Civil War, Darth Malak’s ambition began to outpace his loyalty. Believing Revan’s remnants of Jedi philosophy were weaknesses, Malak resolved to usurp the title of Dark Lord. During an ambush by a Jedi strike team led by Bastila Shan, Darth Malak betrayed Revan. He ordered his flagship to fire upon Revan’s command ship, critically injuring him and leaving him for dead to seize the Sith throne. To preserve the knowledge of the dark side, Bastila Shan used her powerful connection to the Force to stabilize the mortally wounded Revan, preventing his death. The Jedi Council then made a radical decision: they erased Revan’s shattered memories and gave him a new identity to offer a chance at redemption. Aware only of his new cover as a Republic soldier, Revan found himself thrust into the ongoing war. During a boarding action by Malak’s forces aboard the Endar Spire, Revan escaped to the planet Taris alongside Republic officer Carth Onasi. There, they reunited with Bastila Shan and fled the doomed planet. Their journey led them to Dantooine, where Revan began to secretly rediscover his latent connection to the Force and was retrained as a Jedi Padawan. The Jedi Council tasked Revan and his companions with finding a series of ancient Star Maps that would lead them to the Star Forge and stop Darth Malak. Throughout this journey, Revan formed deep bonds with his crew, including Bastila Shan, with whom he shared a deep Force bond. As the quest progressed, Darth Malak captured Bastila and subjected her to the dark side, revealing to Revan his true identity as the former Dark Lord. Rather than succumb to despair or turn back to the dark side, Revan chose to confront his past and embrace the light. Revan led his companions to the Star Forge, where he fought his way through Malak’s forces. In a climactic lightsaber duel, Revan defeated the corrupted Malak and dismantled the Sith Empire he had previously commanded. With the Sith Empire destroyed and the Republic saved, Revan was hailed as the Prodigal Knight and a savior. He later married Bastila Shan and sought to distance himself from his turbulent past. Living quietly on Coruscant, Revan and Bastila sank into relative obscurity. However, as the years passed, Revan was plagued by fragmented nightmares and resurfacing memories of the true Sith Empire awaiting in the Unknown Regions. Tormented by the knowledge that the galaxy remained in danger, Revan made the agonizing decision to leave his pregnant wife and unborn son behind. He ventured back into deep space to seek out the Sith Emperor Vishet. Revan’s search eventually led him into a trap set by the Emperor. Following a failed assassination attempt, Revan was captured and held prisoner by Vishet in Dromund Kaas. For three years, Revan was continuously tortured by the Emperor, who drained his Force energy to bolster his own immortality. Throughout this agony, Revan used his indomitable will to subtly influence Vishet’s mind, delaying his invasion plans and sowing doubt in the Emperor’s ranks. Eventually, his former lieutenant Meetra Surik (the Jedi Exile) and a Sith Lord named Scourge mounted a rescue attempt. Though they succeeded in breaking into the prison, the rescue mission devolved into a desperate battle. Sensing the Emperor’s inevitable victory, Scourge betrayed the Jedi to save himself, murdering Meetra Surik. Revan was once again captured by the Sith Emperor. Revan’s second imprisonment by Vishet lasted for an astounding three hundred years. During this immense period of stasis and torment, the constant draining of his energy caused Revan’s mind to fracture into two distinct halves. When Republic strike teams finally breached the Emperor’s fortress and freed Revan centuries later, he had emerged as a deeply unstable and divided figure. His mind was fragmented into a light side persona and a dark side persona. Driven by unadulterated vengeance, his dark side half broke away and took control of a fanatical cult known as the Order of Revan. He seized the ancient Rakatan space station known as the Foundry, intending to create an army of extermination droids to biologically wipe out the Sith. Revan’s extreme methods drew the condemnation of both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, who viewed his plan as a threat to the balance of the galaxy. A coalition strike team was dispatched to the Foundry to halt his plans. During the ensuing battle, the strike team defeated Revan, and his physical body perished. However, the torture he had endured and the splintering of his mind caused a supernatural phenomenon: his dark half refused to assimilate into the Force. Instead of passing away, Revan’s soul split into two entities. The dark side half, fueled by absolute hatred for the Sith Emperor, possessed his preserved armor, while his light side half sought to stop the dark Revan from enacting further destruction. Taking command of the surviving Order of Revan cultists on the moon of Yavin 4, the dark Revan sought to resurrect the Sith Emperor’s spirit to a physical form so he could permanently destroy the ruler once and for all. Fearing that this drastic ritual would plunge the galaxy into catastrophic warfare, a massive coalition of both Imperial and Republic forces united with Revan’s light side spirit to stop him. On the jungles of Yavin 4, a climactic battle occurred between the allied coalition and the cult of Revan. The unified forces and Revan’s own light side spirit managed to defeat the dark side Revan. In his final moments, the two conflicting halves of Revan’s consciousness merged back together. Reconciling his time as a Jedi Knight, a Sith Lord, and a tormented prisoner, Revan finally found peace. His fractured soul reconciled, Revan’s physical form faded, and he successfully became one with the Force. Though his life was characterized by war, torture, and duality, his spirit transcended the dark side. Even after passing into the afterworld, Revan’s lingering spirit played a crucial role in future events. He provided wisdom and guidance to later galactic heroes, ensuring that Vishet’s reign of terror was finally brought to an end. Revan’s legend persisted for millennia. Thousands of years later, the Sith Lord Darth Bane would discover one of Revan’s Sith Holocrons, utilizing its dark teachings to form the iconic Rule of Two, fundamentally shifting the nature of the Sith. Ultimately, Revan’s life embodied the eternal struggle between light and dark. By mastering both philosophies, he left behind a complex, polarizing legacy as a hero, a conqueror, and the ultimate embodiment of balance in the Force.
