Who are the Rock-Afire Explosion, you ask?
Well, The Rock-Afire Explosion was an animatronic character band that appeared in Showbiz Pizza Place restaurants from 1980 to 1992. Since then, various small companies and people have been preserving it and one can still view the original show to this day. (tOtALlY nOT CoPIEd FrOm WiKIpEDiA)
In 1990, Showbiz Pizza Place bougt out all assets of the Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theater Franchise. For 2 years, The two restaurants remained separate entities until Showbiz Pizza was earning less money than Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theater. The company then decided to approach the creator of The Rock-Afire Explosion, Aaron Fetcher (pronounced Feck-ter) for him to make a decision. Either he would keep the rights to the Rock-Afire Explosion, and Showbiz Pizza Place would end, or, he could give the rights to Showbiz Pizza Time Inc. and the restaurants would continue to operate, with the company having full control of the characters.
Aaron had plans for The Rock-Afire Explosion, so he declined and still owns the characters to this day. Then, the company did a process called “Concept Unification” where they got rid of the character clothes and skin, and replaced them with new ones themed as the Chuck E. Cheese characters that you can see today at various locations.
