Han Foldo encased in Carbonite-Foil finally released

SuperFolder iiMattWeb

says: Hello SuperFolders!

My name is SuperFolder MattWeb2000, but these days I just go by Matt. Back before recent times I spent every waking moment on origamiyoda.com.

If you were to sift through some old posts/comments about me, I can’t promise you would like what you’d see. That being said, I feel like we’ve all had our moments of uncertainty.

Back in those days, though I was hardly a “good” folder, I avidly folded my share of star wars origami. Not much of it’s left, but while I was sorting through some old, dusty boxes in my closet today I came across this fella, looking pretty frightened.

The farthest back a I’ve been able to pin this sucker is 2014, but I know he’d been encased in Carbonite since before that, so I would place him from around the time Art2-D2’s book came out. That’s at least 4 years ago!

So here we are four years later. I had to peel him off of a block of plasticine which I used to lay the foundation, then wrapped in tinfoil. The lamination strip I put on him just won’t come off without taking the rest of his face along with him, and it seems as though some of the blue coloration in the plasticine went and leaked onto half of his face, but other than that he’s made it out just fine!

I think it’s really neat that something from a major part of my childhood has survived this long, and I’m gonna try and cut this short at the risk of droning on too long and causing any more stress to the infinitely mysterious Webmaster Sam.

Some final footnotes.

First, to the new generation of Superfolders, crease on! The lost art of origami shall be carried on through you! It’s a big undertaking, but with enough people anything is possible!

Second, to Tom, don’t forget how many people you’ve inspired to write, draw, and fold. I’ve been a hobbyist in 3D animation for the past few years, and my inspiration to create definitely stems from my years spent reading your books. My dream is to work on a high-budget 3D movie some day, (and what better way to start than a 3D OY movie?) and it’s all thanks to you. Hit me up if you need an animator.

Last of all, to everyone, may the folds be with you, always.
