Brave Fighter Sneek Peek

SuperFolder ArtsyActor

Hi, Guys! Gotta make this quick, but here is a sneek peek of my new book, “Brave Fighter”. In fact, it is the entire 1st chapter!!! ENJOY!!!

(PS Please do not take this and credit it as your own work. More to Come soon!)

I wake up to the screeching of my alarm clock. I throw on a shirt from a couple days ago, the clock still screeching. As I attempt to ignore the clock with a grimace, I pull some pants on, then socks. Still, the screeching continues in my head. SHUT UP, I think out loud, as I slam down on the alarm’s power button. I check the time. It is 2:00 in the morning. Crud!, I think to myself. I overslept. I open the small chest in front of my bed. This chest contains the most important thing in the world to me: The drill my parents gave me. Right before the Searing. I sling the drill over my shoulder and head downstairs, grabbing some beef jerky along the way. I head out to my dad’s old truck. My truck. Having only 3 hours of work time today, I’ve gotta move fast. I plug the keys into the ignition, and head to the Hideaway. The Hideaway is an old abandoned crud-hole I found almost by accident. I’ll explain later. As I head out to the mineshaft, I realize I forgot my headlight. I personally don’t care. I can do fine without it.
You’re probably wondering how this all started. Well, to answer that, I’ll have to start at the beginning. My name is Dustin. It means “Brave Fighter” in German. My parents and I lived on a small ranch. I loved my life. I didn’t ever have to worry about going hungry. I had everything I needed. On the day I found the Hideaway, I was searching for something. I don’t remember what it was, but I found it. The next thing I knew, my tiny body came in contact with hard, dusty rails. When I came to, I found that I had fallen into a hole, and the only thing I knew to do was scream until my little head hurt. As I waited for my parents to find me, I looked around. There were fine gems and colorful rocks hidden all along the walls. Gold, silver, pyrite, and best of all, stones fit for building extensions to our small ranch! By the time my parents got a ladder for me, I had found the spot to go in case of a jam. From then on, when my parents were low on supplies to sell, I would take them to the Hideaway to collect the valuable materials. The Hideaway became our family’s secret. No one else has ever forun out about it…except Selah. When I turned 12, I met the love of my life, Selah. She was five feet tall, had fiery-red hair, was about a year or two younger than me, and was the most beautiful girl I ever met. She and I became great friends. We eventually started going out as freshmen in highschool. I don’t remember her much now.. It doesn’t matter anymore. Around the time I turned 15, The Searing began. The Sun grew bright that day. Brighter than ever before. The temperature was 465 degrees fahrenheit. Many died. The few thousand of us remaining were drafted. Why were we drafted? We had to build a city. An underground city that would protect us from the Sun. By the time we finished, We had built at least seventy-eight apartments, each housing five-hundred at least. I moved into one of the apartments, next to Savannah’s family. That’s when things went downhill. My parents did not evacuate underground. They stayed together. They told me once that when they died, they would rather die together on the ranch than anywhere else. They didn’t survive. I remember receiving word about their death, and afterwards crying profusely for days. I couldn’t stop. It was all I could do to stop and take a breath between cries. A few years later, Selah became quite ill. She died at the age of nineteen. Cause of death: Exposure to Sun radiation. I decided after her death that I would never love again. I have kept that promise to this day. I do everything I can to forget Selah. I lift weights, I pull loads, I sell stones and gems. Anything to forget what it is like to love. Now, I collect materials at the Hideaway. I wake up early as I can to avoid Searing. This is the only safe time to be outside. This is how I make a living.
